GETTING TO your villa is simple, easy & carefree

Costa Rica is readily accessible by most U.S. and European air carriers. Multiple non-stop flights originate each day from Houston, Dallas, Miami, Atlanta, New York City/Newark, Los Angeles and Charlotte. It is best to fly into San Jose’s Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) in the central part of Costa Rica.

(If you arrive at Liberia’s Daniel Oduber International Airport in the northern part of Costa Rica, or if you are driving from a different part of the country, contact us for additional options.)

Upon arrival at SJO, there are five options to choose between to easily travel to Villa Encantada. Each route has different benefits, as described below. Just tell us your preference, and our Concierge can help confirm your arrangements:

1) Quickest Overall Method: Regional Air Service
After arriving in San Jose, choose between a Sansa Air ( or Nature Air ( commuter flight to Quepos. Several flights depart each day from San Jose and average between $60-$85 each way. Total flight time is just 20 minutes. Once on the ground in Quepos, a driver can be easily hired to bring you to Villa Encantada. If you want a rental car (recommended), it will be parked at the house waiting for you. Or, let us arrange a rental in Quepos for you to pick-up upon arrival at the airport. It is just a 25-minute drive South along the Pacific Coast Hwy to the entrance of Paradise Breezes, where Villa Encantada awaits.

2) Fastest Self-Driving Route: Toll Road from San Jose
A new toll road from San Jose to the coast makes driving easy. Depending if you make any stops along the way, it is about a 2 ½-to 3-hour drive to reach Villa Encantada from SJO. While still scenic, the toll road is less winding and has four lanes to allow easy passing. Major rental car companies are at the international airport, and your Concierge can arrange a reservation in advance. Directions are easy, with good signage along the way to help get you to the Pacific Coast Highway in Quepos. Once you drive past the Quepos Airport, it is just a 20-25 minute drive South until you get to Hatillo and see the entrance gates to “Paradise Breezes” where Villa Encantada awaits.

3) Most Scenic Driving Route: Experience the Mountains
If you want unbeatable scenery, Costa Rica is the place! The roads are in good shape, but plan for a 4 ½-to 5-hour drive depending upon the time and day. Going over the mountain portion of this scenic route is about 2 hours before you can continue on towards the Pacific Coast Highway. You will enjoy a drive up mountain terrain over 10,000 feet tall followed by a rocky Pacific coastline. Your reward, if you have the patience, is some amazing sights and great phot opportunities.

4) Least Hassle: A Private Driver
Your Villa Encantada Concierge can arrange a private car or van to greet you outside Customs upon arrival at the airport. Choose between the faster Toll Road Route or the more scenic Mountain Route. These professional drivers are reliable and experienced, so you can relax and enjoy a scenic drive with no hassles. All vehicles are modern, comfortable and equipped with A/C. Just ask us for pricing if you are interested.

5) Most Affordable: Shared Shuttle Service
With a shared shuttle service, you simply hop into an air-conditioned van at the airport (called a “Monkey Ride”) to head to the coast. Make new friends along the way while sharing in the cost. Prices start at just $44/person. The shuttle may make multiple stops along the way, and a minimum of four passengers are required before the shuttle can depart for the trip.
